Workshop for Greenhead College EPQ Students and plans for a A-level student user guide

On 17th June we gave an online workshop to a group of 70 students at Greenhead College, Huddersfield. At the start of their EPQ project (Extended Project Qualification), the students we addressed are currently exploring their research topics and research methods. We hope that our workshop will have the dual effect of inspiring students to use our the Hansard web application in their projects and showing them a form of research that is different from reading and assimilating information.

As a direct result of our contact with these students and their teachers, we have now started working on a step-by-step “How to use Hansard at Huddersfield for research” guide for A-level students. This guide will show students how to use the various tools of the site together to create a broad picture of key trends in parliamentary discussion of their research topic in Hansard. An additional aim is to illustrate with clear examples of the benefits of systematically analysing language patterns for purposes of historical, political and sociological research. Once finished, the guide for A-level students will be freely downloadable from hansard.hud.ac.uk.

Would you like your students to benefit from a similar workshop? We are happy to discuss the possibilities! Please get in touch via hansard@hud.ac.uk to discuss possibilities.

Workshops!

We are now organising workshops to help you engage with the Hansard at Huddersfield site better.

These workshops will introduce attendees to the website and will use examples from various case studies to show the potential of the site to enhance research into parliamentary proceedings. Workshops will also provide an opportunity to explore the site for your research interests with advice from the Hansard at Huddersfield team.

Anyone with an interest in Hansard as a resource for their work (whether a journalist, MP, lobbyist, think tank researcher, librarian, academic, teacher, student or holding any other occupation) is welcome to attend.

We will be posting posters for the various workshops on this site!
